Automatic Sliding Door Repair & Service – The Spread Eagle Hotel, Thame

Whilst we were on-site carrying out a repair to the Movable Wall in the conference suite. The customer asked us to look at the automatic Record Sliding door in the entrance to the Forthergill Hall.

The report was that the door did not work and was stuck in the open position. It was soon apparent that the remote function switch had been accidently locked not allowing any change in its setting.

We reset the door and unlocked the programme switch, then carried out a service of the door to ensure it was fully operational and all safety devices were tested.

BS EN 16005 / BS7036-0 are the current standards applicable to automatic door sets and also requires servicing as well as carrying out the necessary risk assessments at least once a year.

All that needs to be done is to ensure that they are maintained in accordance with the instructions set by the manufacturer of the automatic powered operator.

Most automatic door manufacturers specify annual service intervals but that will depend upon the type of building and the level of traffic.

Higher traffic automatic doors such as those used in hospitals, supermarket, airports and similar may require more frequent maintenance and servicing.

During each of our visits we –

  • Carry out a schedule of works
  • Minor repairs
  • Site and door specific risk assessments
  • Test and inspection
  • Provide Compliance documentation

After demonstrating the operation to the customer, we explained how this had happened and trained all of the maintenance team how to resolve this issue themselves should it reoccur in the future. The majority of automatic doors have user manuals but sometimes they are not passed onto the end user or a readily available on the internet.

At BH Doors we believe that customers should be able to carry out any resets themselves and be conversant with the user manual for their particular piece of equipment to save time, money and the inconvenience of a failed door.
