New Aluminium Door Installation In Icknield

Baldock Scout Hut is a multi-use building used as a playgroup, meeting room, social room and for their HQ.

Following a DDA access audit there was a need to provide an accessible entrance into the building. As viewed the existing timber doors had been there for some time and had suffered by exposure to the elements causing water ingress into the building.

During our on-site survey it was found that –

• The doors were difficult to open as binding in the frame and on the floor.
• Door rotten and building potentially insecure
• Doors susceptible to the wind as no closers were fitted
• Risk of crushing at the hinge point as no protection for a person’s fingers.
• Access not sufficient for a wheelchair / pushchair as the gap was in sufficient

It is important to carry out an in-depth site survey to ascertain all of the issues with the existing door system as well as finding out the operational needs to ensure that the new aluminium door will alleviate these are provide additional benefits. Taking all into account our solution was –

• New commercial aluminium entrance doors
• Solidly infilled panels as glass would be susceptible to damage
• Leaf and half design with larger door leaf 950mm wide for wheelchair / buggies so generally only 1 door used instead of having to open both doors for access
• Perimeter sealing around the doors and frames with double ramped threshold
• Self-closing and hold open transom closers to allow the doors to stand open at busy periods
• Powder coated in the Scout group colours
• One leaf is larger than the other to allow easier access
• A canopy has been installed to reduce the ingress of water into the building
• 3-point locking
• Integral anti-finger trap door leafs
