Emergency Glass Door Repair At Westgate, Oxford

The Westgate Centre in Oxford called us as the Dorma glass door to the retail outlet Mankind had dropped and they could not close it. We attended and found that there was not a parallel gap between the door leaves and the door was rubbing on the threshold. Upon further investigation, after the cover plates were removed, we found the top pivot assembly had moved position.

Always when we work, we always carry out a risk assessment and deploy our yellow men barriers to designate a safe working area for us and the general public. Where we deem that the risk is high, we would carry out any work at a more suitable time, such as when the building is closed or in this instance before the shop opens.

We realigned the door leaf with the frame and the adjacent door, tested the lock and then we checked the other door to ensure all positions and fixings were correct. It is important that all fixings on a glass door are at the correct torque which is why all of our engineers carry these as part of their tool kits.

Common issues and problems for glass doors which need repairing are:

  • Out of alignment causing glass to touch adjacent glass or frame
  • Door handles loose
  • Door not secured at the top
  • Cover plates loose or missing
  • Closing too fast
  • Difficult to lock and having to lift it up to close
  • Not closing or not opening fully
  • Catching on the floor causing damage
  • Access control or electronic lock not always engaging

Oxfordshire is one of the areas we cover including Oxfordshire, Suffolk, Essex, Peterborough and Cambridgeshire, allowing us to provide the level of service our customers require should they also have a problem with their glass doors.
