Emergency Automatic Swing Door Repair – Tim Bergen Life & Mind Building, University of Oxford

We are asked to attend a same day response emergency call out to the Tim Bergen Life and Mind Building for the University of Oxford.

We deployed our yellow safety barriers to designate a safe working area and investigated the reported faults. It was apparent that the operator had lost its parameters so it would not open fully and also the on-door safety sensors were detecting so it would not also close.

We reset the operator and recalibrated the sensors with our test box to ensure the correct detection. The system was tested with the access control system and electric locking, cleaned and left in working order.

My automatic door is not closing, can you help?
Yes of course, but be aware we cover Oxfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex and Peterborough, but if you are in adjoining counties, please call us, we may be able to help. Also depending on the severity of your problem we may be able to offer a same day response.

What should I check if my automatic door is not closing?

At your automatic door please check the following –

  •  Is it in the correct setting, i.e. auto / 2 way?
  • If you change the setting to closed, does it close?
  • Is there an error code or sequence of flashing lights on the display?
  • Is the power on?
  • Walk to the door and do the sensors above you light up?
  • Is there anything in the doorway to stop them closing?

If you have checked and still not operating, then contact us now

Can I use BH Doors without a service contract agreement?
Yes of course, but be aware that your call out / hourly rate will be higher than a contract customer. Also depending on the type of equipment, this may need to be serviced as part of compliance and health and safety legislation, ask us for a free survey and quotation.

For automatic doors as an example the minimum for compliance to BSEN16005 and BS7036 2014 is once per year and a risk assessment checklist document issued.

The manufacturers may specify when service parts are replaced due to the number of operations, so you may need to increase the amount of service visits and replacement of parts to ensure the safe and continued operation.

For Fire escapes for compliance to BS9999 and your building insurance they need to be tested, serviced and inspected at least twice per year with a checklist document issued.
