DDA Automatic Swing Door Adaptions – Sackler Library, University of Oxford
Following a DDA accessible audit by University of Oxford Estates at the Sackler Library in Oxford, we converted the newly replaced main entrance doors of the main entrance.
The purpose of these adaptions and installations were allow wheelchair users to gain access to the facilities, library and accessible toilets throughout the building.
Following our survey to understand the requirements we then provided a quotation which comprised of Record DFA127 swing operators as they will allow the installation of wireless radio push pads.
Also, on the main entrance we integrated with the access control system so that either when you presented your card, the door would unlock and open for you, close and relock automatically.
It is important that all installations of automatic doors have any risks designed out or any residual risks reduced to a safe level. So, we installed a fingerguards at the hinge point of the door to eliminate the risk of trapping fingers.
Also, there are BEA Flatscan on door safety sensors installed to both sides of the door to reduce the risk of the door opening or closing onto a person within the sweep area of the door.
On completion, the installation is subject to a risk Assessment Checklist as part of compliance to EN16005 and BS7036.
The complete systems were tested with the relevant interfaces, then demonstrated with the O&M Manuals handed to the Building Manager.
This is a common solution we provide for our customers, whether following a DDA Accessible Audit or are looking to automate a door to enhance their customers’ experience.

BH Doors provide installations of these easy-access door systems that will enable your building to be accessible to everyone with the functionality and security you require.
Accessible automatic doors in existing buildings should be one of the following two types:
- a manually operated power operated door controlled by a push pad, coded entry system, card swipe or remote-control device
- an automatic power operated door controlled, for example, by a motion sensor or a hands-free proximity reader.
The selection of which type will be following a site survey from an engineer to be able to provide a quotation which encapsulates your requirement, user characteristics and risk assessment, please contact us to discuss your requirements.
