DDA Accessible Door Installation, University Of Oxford

Today we adapted the main front door at the University of Oxford’s Doctoral Training Centre to provide an accessible entrance.

Due to the door being arched we had to install an underground operator. We chose a Geze UFO as we could not drive the door directly from underneath. This solution allowed us to install the operator inside the building and not to disrupt the external stonework.

We also chose the BEA Flatscan safety sensors to reduce the risk of impact, giving full coverage of the door leaf and to minimise the aesthetics of the door.

The operator is linked to the universities access control system as the building is accessible 24 hours a day. This means that the door will unlock and open for any valid user without the need for keys, or push or pull of the door.
