DDA Accessible Auto Swing Door Conversion & Installation, London

Following a DDA accessible audit at the BBC’s New Broadcasting House in London, we automated an existing steel door.

The aims were to –

  • provide easier access for all without the need to touch the door by means of a motion radar sensor
  • to reduce damage on the steel doorset as many deliveries are taken through the door during the day as it is enroute to the kitchens and loading bay
  • reduce the initial specification cost as due to the size of the door leaf only one was required to be automated as initially the assessor specified both.

The installation comprised of a Record DFA127 swing operator activated by the access control system and push pad to exit. We select products that will allow integration with your existing access control, fire alarm and locking, to minimise disruption, not to compromise security and save money.

The key is to survey and understand your requirements prior to quotation and installation.

It is important that all installations of automatic doors have any risks designed out or any residual risks reduced to a safe level. So, we installed a fingerguard at the hinge point of the door to eliminate the risk of trapping fingers.

Also, there are BEA 4safe on door safety sensors installed to both sides of the door to reduce the risk of the door opening or closing onto a person within the sweep area of the door.

On completion, the installation is subject to a risk Assessment Checklist as part of compliance to EN16005 and BS7036.
