Automatic door operator replacement, for South Oxfordshire District Council – Abbey House in Abingdon

We were called to site to give advice on the side entrance to the council offices as they had existing issues with the door –

• Existing operator only opening one door and limited spare parts expensive
• Door difficult to open manually
• Impossible for a person in a wheelchair to open and gain access into the building
• Door not always closing causing a security issue, due to wind loading
• Person had to manually lock / unlock the doors twice a day and damage had occurred to the doors when this had not taken place.

From our free on-site survey and discussions with the end user the following advice was provided –
• Specify a high usage operator to open automatically for every user all day, everyday
• Install new access control system controlled by reception with access cards for all staff
• Install automatic electronic locking system integrated into the new automatic door operator for out of hours operation which would lock at certain times and be controlled remotely
• Reuse existing safety sensors to reduce costs as working correctly

We provided a quotation to replace the operator with a Dorma ED100 specifically rated for external doors with integral spring return. To save costs we reused the existing safety sensors, activation devices and interfaces.

On completion, commissioned and tested with the access control system to ensure the door was now compliant.
