DDA Accessible Automatic Door Installation, Norfolk

Following a DDA accessible audit by the Sandringham Estate, there was requirement to automate the existing main entrance doors to the gift shop to allow wheelchair / buggy access and to eliminate the need for persons to touch the doors. We attended site to survey and understand the requirements prior to quotation and installation. Both doors were automated to ensure compliance for the minimum distance allowed.

The installation comprised of a pair of Dorma ED100 swing operators activated by external BEA Eagle radar sensors and internally by push pads with on door BEA 4Safe safety sensors. As this is a fire escape, it is important as you must never deviate from the specification and operation. So, in the event of a power failure the automation stops and it becomes a manual door which needs to be easily opened in the direction of escape.

It is important that all installations of automatic doors have any risks designed out or any residual risks reduced to a safe level. Then the installation is subject to a risk Assessment Checklist as part of compliance to EN16005 and BS7036.
