Design – Existing listed building with an arched doorway that required conversion for disabled access compliance and integrate with access control system

Issues

  • Arched door which could not be replaced
  • Door difficult to open manually
  • Impossible for a person in a wheelchair to open and gain access into the building
  • Different floor levels with a step internally
  • Entrance also used for deliveries
  • Door not always closing causing a security issue, due to wind loading

Solutions

  • Specify a high usage operator as it will open automatically for every user
  • Remove internal floor and create a level floor
  • Reinforce floor to install a concealed floor mounted operator
  • Install safety sensors to reduce the risk of the door opening or closing onto persons
  • Integrate into existing access control system
  • Install new matting and redecorate
